🖥️Using Karl the CMS
We use a content management system (CMS) to save and publish content on SF.gov.
SF.gov content management system
SF.gov is built using a content management system, or CMS. The CMS for SF.gov is a custom product called Karl.
Digital Services engineers build and maintain Karl using a product called Wagtail.
What is a CMS?
A CMS is software that organizes pieces of content and lets users arrange it to create a website.
Content is pieces of text, pictures, audio, video– basically, all the stuff that’s on your website.
The content management system lets you enter that content, save it, arrange it into pages, and finally, publish.
