# Labels

Use short, descriptive labels for inputs. This helps users scan the form.

Labels are sentence case.

We prefer descriptive labels over questions.

You can use a question for radio button inputs or yes/no questions.

We speak to users in the first person using “you” and “your.”

Where that is not clear, like where several people could fill out the form, always choose what is clear over [SF.gov style](https://app.gitbook.com/@sfdigitalservices/s/style-guide/).

| Good labels                                 | Bad labels                                                         |
| ------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
|
Name

Email

Date of birth
|
What’s your name?

Full Name

When were you born?
|

If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.
