Accessibility guidelines
SF.gov is built to meet accessibility guidelines for the City, the Federal government, and website best practice.
That means we take care of the technical side of accessibility, like color contrast and font sizes. But editors and writers still need to think about accessibility when making content. We make our pages accessible by:
Page structure
Writing simply and directly
Getting all vital content and services translated by humans, and keeping those translations up to date.
In writing, you need to consider people who are:
Non native English speakers
Dyslexic
Neurodivergent
Older
Less used to computers
On smaller screens
Distracted
Stressed
Skimming
It's a lot to keep track of. But if you follow our writing guidelines you can make sure that everyone understands your web content.
