Go over this checklist before you publish your page.

Editing checklist

After your first draft, you will need to edit your content.

Check user focus

  • Who is the user?

  • What do they want to do? (One thing per page)

  • When is it done? (acceptance criteria)

Check task direction‌

  • Does the first sentence explain what the service does?

  • Does each sentence help the user with the task?

Check titles and descriptions

  • Are they short and within the character limits (65 for titles and 110 for descriptions)

  • Are they in sentence case?

  • Do you use ALL CAPS anywhere on your page?

Break up wall of text

  • Sentences should be under 15 words.

  • Paragraphs should have 3 sentences or less.

  • Write subheadings about every 3 paragraphs.

  • Use bulleted lists instead of long sentence lists.

Check for accessibility

  • If you are using images, do they have alt text?

  • Is there text in the image?

  • Do you use "click here" or descriptive link text?
